The 27th Annual Folklife Festival will be held July 10-12th, 2009 at Franklin Park, Yakima Valley Museum and many Downtown Venues in Yakima, Washington. Mino will be performing, and we'll post it when we know dates and times.
The Yakima Folklife Festival takes place in Franklin Park (a large city park with trees and slopes in the residential center of Yakima), and in the Yakima Valley Museum (located in Franklin Park). Evening concerts are held Friday and Saturday at numerous downtown venues. Weekend daytime events are held in the park and museum, with evening events on Saturday continuing in the park and museum and at downtown restaurants, lounges, wineries and coffeehouses. Daytime events are centered in the park, with food and craft booths located in the heart of the action. There is also a “Children’s Festival” area (in cooperation with the museum’s Children’s Underground).Like every year, the main festival in the park and museum will continue into the evening Saturday. Performances at outdoor stages will continue until about 8 PM, after which the shows will move to downtown venues.
The list of performance venues in Franklin Park and the Yakima Valley Museum includes 3 scheduled stages and an open mic stage where we hold workshops and allow unscheduled jams by almost anyone who wants to sign up for a demonstration set of their music or other talents. Every effort is made to provide lots of shade from Yakima’s hot summer sun. The stage this year, will be set close to or under trees and shade cloth. Our usual concert stage inside the museum’s Great Hall, will offer cool respite in the air-conditioned museum building for the more energetic acts in a refreshing café atmosphere. |
